Zonneplan Unveils Powerplay Feature to Automatically Turn Off Inverters in Energy Surplus Scenarios

Zonneplan is introducing a new feature that allows customers to automatically turn off their inverters in the event of an energy surplus. This feature is integrated with the company's dynamic energy contracts, so customers do not have to worry about paying a negative price for supplying electricity back to the grid.

Known as Powerplay, this system is exclusive to Zonneplan's dynamic energy contracts. Customers can activate this feature through the Zonneplan app, which will then automatically switch off their inverters when electricity prices are in the negative.

Zonneplan outlines various scenarios where Powerplay comes into play, such as during the spring and summer months when hourly electricity prices drop, particularly in the afternoons due to excess energy. The tool also takes into consideration factors like cloud cover affecting power generation and still switches off inverters even when electricity prices are positive but there is excess energy on the grid.

Powerplay operates on an algorithm that governs when the inverter is on or off, according to Zonneplan. Customers can indicate if they have an annual surplus exceeding 500kWh, in which case the tool will be more proactive in turning off the inverter to minimize potential energy tax charges at the end of the year.

In addition to inverters, Powerplay can also manage home batteries, specifically Nexus batteries, which are currently compatible with the feature. Zonneplan plans to expand compatibility to its charging stations in the near future and eventually include products from other manufacturers as well.
