Toy for Bob is making a groundbreaking move by continuing as an independent studio. In a recent announcement, the developer revealed its decision to part ways with long-time owners Activision and Microsoft, whom they have been associated with since 2005. Even after the split, Toys for Bob expresses their desire to maintain a working relationship with both companies.

The studio's statement highlights the culmination of multiple rounds of negotiations leading to their independence. This strategic move is seen as a pivotal moment for the studio to elevate their future games to new heights. The decision allows Toys for Bob to revert back to their original form as a nimble and adaptable studio. As they navigate this new chapter, Toys for Bob remains open to potential collaborations with Activision and Microsoft for upcoming projects.

Established in 1989 in Novato California, Toys for Bob initially made a name for itself with strategy games like Star Control and Star Control II. Their profile rose significantly after being acquired by Activision in 2005, especially with the success of the Skylanders series, a spin-off from Spyro.

The launch of the first Skylanders game in 2011 marked a turning point for the studio. Today, the studio is best known for their work on the remastered versions of the iconic Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games, including the critically acclaimed Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (2017) and Spyro Reignited Trilogy (2018). Additionally, Toys for Bob developed Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, which hit the market in 2020.
