The Rotterdam Court Orders Internet Service Providers to Block Shadow Libraries for Illegal E-Book Downloads

Internet service providers have been ordered by the Rotterdam court to block the illegal e-book download platforms Library Genesis and Anna's Archive. These platforms, known as shadow libraries, offer unauthorized free access to copies of books, magazines, and articles.

The Rotterdam court found that these platforms have been distributing copyright-protected works to a large audience, as reported by Stichting Brein. The individuals responsible for Library Genesis and Anna's Archive are believed to be located overseas, making them difficult to trace due to their anonymity.

Under the terms of the Agreement to Block Websites, internet providers are required to block websites that violate copyright laws when ordered to do so by a court. Providers must implement these blocks within a period of five working days. Additionally, providers must continue blocking access even if the domain name or IP address of the illegal website changes, as well as for any new proxy or mirror sites that may emerge.
