According to sources close to the industry insider Tom Henderson, EA's upcoming Battlefield game is rumored to feature a free battle royale mode similar to that of Call of Duty. The game is expected to be released in October 2025.

Insider Gaming's Henderson suggests that the new Battlefield title will harken back to the franchise's roots, with multiplayer matches accommodating up to 64 players and returning to a four-class system. The destruction systems will also see significant upgrades. The game is rumored to be set in modern times, somewhere between 2025 and 2030, with a strong focus on modern warfare technologies.

The free-to-play battle royale mode is reportedly being developed by Ripple Effect, formerly known as DICE LA. EA intends to follow in the footsteps of Activision by making this mode accessible to all players. The game will feature two battle royale modes, including a classic version and a mode called Gauntlet, where teams compete in objective-based challenges.

EA has already confirmed that the new Battlefield game won't be released before 2025. Various studios are currently working on different aspects of the game, with Ridgeline Games focusing on single-player campaigns. The previous installment in the series, Battlefield 2042, was released in 2022 to mixed reviews.
