The Spanish court demands that Telegram be temporarily blocked. According to multiple media reports, users have uploaded content to the platform without proper permission. The court has ordered the app to be blocked while the investigation into this claim takes place.

Starting Monday, Spanish providers are required to block access to Telegram, as decided by a judge at the Audiencia Nacional in Spain, as reported by Spanish Telecinco. Several Spanish media companies, including Mediaset, Atresmedia, and Movistar, have filed lawsuits against the messaging app for allegedly hosting copyrighted content without authorization. Despite being asked for information, Telegram did not respond before the deadline, leading to the decision to block the app as a precaution during the investigation.

With 8.5 million users in Spain, Telegram is the fourth most popular messaging service in the country, accounting for 18 percent of the total population, according to the Spanish competition watchdog CNMC. The platform has faced blockades in countries like Iran and Russia, where it was blocked for two years. In Brazil, a ban was requested but later lifted before being implemented.
