Collaborating with iFixit, Rakuten Kobo is making strides in enhancing the repairability of its e-readers. The company is paving the way for users to easily 'replace common components' on specific devices, although specific details are still forthcoming.

Kobo has shared a dedicated section on repairability on its help page, which can be found here. In this section, Kobo mentions its partnership with iFixit to prolong the lifespan of their e-readers through the replacement of commonly utilized components. This feature is set to be available on the Libra Color, Clara Color, and Clara BW models, with no mention of other models at this time.

While the initiative is promising, many specifics are still unclear. It remains uncertain whether the e-readers' screens will be replaceable, or if the focus is solely on components such as batteries or connection ports. Additionally, details regarding potential firmware or internal storage updates and the global reach of the program are still up in the air. Kobo has indicated that more information will be shared soon regarding the repair process.
