According to Mira Murati, the chief technology officer of OpenAI, the AI tool Sora will be made available to the general public later this year. OpenAI also plans to add audio and editing functions to the video tool in the future.

During an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Murati mentioned that it may be a few months before Sora is accessible to everyone, but did not specify a release date. She also discussed the training data used for Sora, stating that footage from Shutterstock was utilized, along with other publicly available or licensed footage.

Murati highlighted the significant financial resources needed to operate Sora, but despite this, OpenAI aims to charge customers a similar amount as Dall-E. She also addressed concerns about the tool generating false information, mentioning that Sora will likely not be able to create videos of public figures and will include a watermark on generated videos.

OpenAI unveiled Sora in February 2024, an AI tool that converts text prompts into one-minute videos. Currently only accessible to researchers, OpenAI hopes to gather feedback and identify potential risks before expanding its availability.

Sora is described as a tool that can create animated scenes, such as a fluffy monster kneeling beside a melting candle. The art style is 3D and realistic, emphasizing lighting and texture to convey a sense of wonder and curiosity. The warm colors and dramatic lighting enhance the cozy atmosphere of the image, depicting the monster exploring its surroundings with innocence and playfulness.
