Meta has recently unveiled new monitoring tools within CrowdTangle, a popular tool utilized by researchers and journalists to analyze content on both Facebook and Instagram in anticipation of the upcoming European elections.
With these latest additions, researchers and journalists are now able to closely monitor specific topics and accounts within each EU country for any signs of disinformation, according to reports from Reuters news agency. The European Commission has expressed satisfaction with these new features. However, Meta has announced plans to discontinue CrowdTangle in August, replacing it with a more limited tool called the Meta Content Library, which will only be accessible to a select few.
The European Commission is currently looking into Meta regarding the removal of CrowdTangle, which has played a crucial role in the analysis of information dissemination on Facebook and Instagram. As elections approach, the issue of disinformation becomes increasingly important, as it can impact the decisions voters make and ultimately affect the democratic process.
