Kotaku Reports Delay in GTA VI Development, Potential Launch in 2026

5 months ago 1023

The progress of GTA VI's development seems to be slowing down, as reported by gaming website Kotaku based on information from undisclosed sources. The reason for the delay remains unclear at this point. Rockstar is now considering the possibility of launching GTA VI in 2026.

Kotaku's report states that Rockstar's initial target for releasing GTA VI is set for the spring of 2025. However, anonymous sources suggest that a fall release in the same year is more likely due to development setbacks. The delays could be related to security and quality concerns, although specifics are not disclosed.

The Rockstar board is reportedly contemplating a scenario where the game will be postponed until 2026. These delays have reportedly led Rockstar Games to dismiss employees who were working remotely in February, instructing them to return to the office full-time. Some employees are now concerned that a culture of extreme work pressure, known as crunch, may emerge as a result of these changes.

Rockstar Games unveiled the first trailer for GTA VI in December 2023, with a planned release date in 2025.
