Intel is gearing up to officially reveal its highly anticipated Lunar Lake laptop processors on September 3rd. The announcement will be made ahead of the IFA fair in Berlin. The exact launch date for laptops featuring the Lunar Lake chips is still unknown.

Intel's Lunar Lake event is scheduled for Tuesday, September 3rd at 6:00 PM Dutch time. The unveiling will be live-streamed on the company's website, as mentioned in a press release from Intel. At the event, Intel will provide insights into the chip's performance and efficiency.

While the release date for laptops with Lunar Lake chips remains a mystery, a company spokesperson told The Verge that more information on availability will be shared during the September 3rd event. Intel had previously indicated a Q3 release timeframe, with a deadline of September 21st.

At Computex in Taiwan, Intel disclosed key details about the Lunar Lake architecture. The processors will feature a novel design comprising multiple discrete 'tiles' or chiplets. Interestingly, the CPUs will not support hyperthreading, even on the faster P-cores, to optimize efficiency. Intel claims that a hyperthreading-free P-core can deliver a 15% efficiency boost and occupy 10% less chip space compared to its hyperthreading-enabled counterpart.

The Lunar Lake chiplets housing the CPU cores are being manufactured by TSMC using the N3B process, rather than in Intel's own facilities. This aligns with Intel's IDM 2.0 strategy unveiled in 2021, where the company aims to produce chips for third-party firms and leverage external foundries like TSMC for its own products. Notably, Intel's chip manufacturing arm now operates independently from its product designing division focused on CPUs.
