Google's Potential Emergency Satellite Signal Feature in Development for Pixel Phones

Reports suggest that Google might be developing a new feature that allows users to send emergency signals via satellite communications. While it is unclear if this functionality will be limited to Pixel phones, clues found in an update to an Android 14 feature indicate that Google is actively working on this capability.

The Telegram channel Google News recently discovered references to this feature in a recent update to the Adaptive Connectivity Services app in Android 14. Version p.2024.08 includes mentions of 'Satellite SOS', suggesting that users will be able to send emergency signals using satellite connectivity when they are unable to access a mobile or WiFi network.

Even though the Android settings link to a support page, there is currently no information available on it. The feature appears to be specific to Pixel devices, as indicated by multiple references. It remains uncertain whether this functionality will eventually be available on other Android devices. Previous reports have already indicated that Android 14 will support satellite communication.
