Canonical Extends Ubuntu LTS Support to Twelve Years for Ubuntu Pro Subscribers

Canonical has announced that it will now offer support for its Ubuntu LTS releases for up to twelve years, an increase from the previous ten years. This extended support is specifically for Ubuntu Pro subscribers who opt for Legacy Support at an additional cost.

The extended support will be applied retroactively from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, as detailed in a Canonical blog post. The support for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is set to expire next month, but with Legacy Support, existing Ubuntu Pro customers can extend their security updates for an additional two years through a Legacy Support add-on, keeping the distribution supported until April 2026.

Customers who do not have a Pro subscription will still receive updates for LTS releases for a maximum of five years. Ubuntu Pro users who do not purchase the Legacy Support add-on will continue to receive ten years of security updates as part of their default package.
