The semiconductor company BelGaN, formerly known as Onsemi Belgium, has officially filed for bankruptcy. This Belgian manufacturer was in the process of developing new chips using gallium nitride, a departure from the traditional use of silicon. BelGaN had a workforce of 440 employees.

Since March, over four hundred employees in Oudenaarde, Belgium have been placed on partial unemployment status, allowing them to work fewer days per month. The company had been facing financial difficulties for some time, stemming from the shift to gallium nitride chip production.

Despite seeking additional investments to support this transition, BelGaN was unable to secure the necessary funds following the initial investment from its shareholders. Established in 2022, BelGaN took over the operations of Onsemi's Belgian division.
