Apple has recently made updates to its App Store guidelines, indicating a significant change in policy. The tech giant will now permit game emulators to be available in its app stores globally, as long as they adhere to all relevant laws.

The revised App Store Guidelines includes a new section that specifically allows emulators to be featured on Apple's platform, as reported by MacRumors. It clarifies that emulators can offer games for downloading, as long as they follow the guidelines and comply with legal requirements.

While game emulators have previously been unofficially available through various means, Apple has now officially recognized them due to regulatory pressures such as the European Digital Markets Act. This change signifies that emulators are not only permitted in Europe but worldwide.

Additionally, the updated guidelines now allow for 'super apps' that include mini apps and games built using HTML5. Furthermore, cloud streaming games are now permitted globally. Apple faced legal challenges from the US Department of Justice for restricting such software in the past.

Another noteworthy change is that apps are now permitted to link to external offers outside of the App Store, but this adjustment is applicable only in the EU. This decision aligns with the requirements set forth by the European Digital Markets Act, indicating Apple's compliance with regulatory standards.
