Apple Approves Epic Games' Developer Account Reinstatement for App Store Access

Apple has officially confirmed to Epic Games that they will be getting back their Developer Account for the App Store. This decision comes after Apple had previously blocked the account, citing reasons that were not made clear at the time.

In an update to a previous blog post, Epic Games shared the news that their Developer Account was being reinstated. It is still uncertain whether this has already taken place or is pending. The account in question belongs to Epic Games Sweden, the Swedish division of the gaming company.

Earlier in the week, Apple had blocked the developer account without providing a clear explanation. Following inquiries from the European Commission, Apple decided to lift the ban on the account. Epic Games has been striving to establish an alternative app store through this developer account, a goal they have been working towards for a long time.

By blocking the account, Apple may have breached the Digital Markets Act, which mandates that tech companies open up their platforms, including iOS, to alternative developers. Epic Games CEO, Tim Sweeney, hailed the decision as a significant win for the DMA. Sweeney also mentioned that Apple had informed the European Commission about their decision to reinstate the Developer Account.
