AMD has unveiled its financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2024. The company reported revenues of $5.8 billion and profits of $265 million, which can be attributed to the strong demand for its data center products.

In the previous quarter, sales from AMD's data center division surged to $2.8 billion, as the chip maker revealed on Wednesday. This represents a remarkable 115% increase compared to the same period in 2023, with data center products now constituting nearly half of AMD's total revenue.

The data center segment encompasses AMD's EPYC processors and Instinct GPUs. Currently, the company offers EPYC 9004 processors based on Zen 4 or Zen 4c, along with MI300 GPUs featuring a chiplet design. Upcoming releases include the first Zen 5-based EPYC processors later this year, and a new generation of Instinct GPUs slated for 2025.

In addition to the strong performance of its data center products, AMD's client division – responsible for consumer processors – saw a significant increase in revenue last quarter, reaching $1.5 billion, a 49% growth year-over-year. This growth is primarily attributed to sales of AMD's Ryzen processors. Conversely, the gaming and embedded segments reported 59% and 41% lower turnover compared to the previous year.

Looking ahead, AMD anticipates revenues of approximately $6.7 billion for the next quarter. The company plans to launch new consumer processors during this period, including the Ryzen 9000 desktop chips with Zen 5 cores, which are set to hit the market in August. Additionally, AMD will introduce Ryzen AI 300 laptop processors based on Zen 5. Tweakers recently published a review of the first laptop featuring this chip.
