AMD Releases Open Source Ray Tracing Libraries for HIP Programming Language, Simplifying Developer Integration

6 months ago 1389

AMD has recently open sourced ray tracing libraries for its HIP programming language, making it easier for developers to integrate ray tracing functionality into their applications.

The announcement was made on GPUOpen by AMD. The company has shared the ray tracing libraries and accompanying documentation on GitHub. While AMD has not provided a specific reason for open sourcing these libraries, Wccftech editors speculate that it may be related to Tiny Corp, a startup that faced challenges with AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT video card firmware while developing AI hardware.

HIP, which stands for Heterogeneous-Compute Interface for Portability, is a C++ runtime API and kernel language that enables developers to create programs compatible with both AMD and Nvidia hardware. Additionally, HIP allows for the conversion of software designed for Nvidia GPUs into a format that can run on AMD GPUs.
