AMD Open Sources Ray Tracing Libraries for HIP Programming Language, Streamlining Integration for Developers

6 months ago 1434

AMD has recently open sourced some ray tracing libraries for its HIP programming language, making it easier for developers to incorporate ray tracing functionality into their HIP applications.

The announcement was made by AMD on GPUOpen. Interested developers can access the ray tracing libraries and accompanying documentation on GitHub. While AMD has not disclosed the reason behind this decision, Wccftech editors speculate that it could be related to Tiny Corp, a startup working on AI hardware that faced challenges with AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT video card firmware during their development process.

HIP, which stands for Heterogeneous-Compute Interface for Portability, is a C++ runtime API and kernel language that enables developers to write programs compatible with both AMD and Nvidia hardware. The flexibility of HIP also allows for conversion of software originally designed for Nvidia GPUs to run on AMD GPUs.
